The Erotic Compilation, the female version

Of course I posted this compilation because the words "sex", "porn" and "erotic" in a post generate more traffic to this blog, and that means more pageviews! ;-)

No, just kidding. But you have to admit that these words got your attention, didn't they? This compilation is just a collection of songs about sex, sung by women.
Salt-N-Pepa couldn't have said it in a better way: " Let's Talk About Sex". These songs talk about romance ("Fluister" by the Belgian Vera Mann, and "ABC Of Romance" by the Dutch Moon Baker) and seduction ("I Want A Little Sugar In My Bowl" by Queen Latifah and "Don't Say Goodnight" by Natalie Cole). Certain songs try to beat around the bush, like "Hot Shot" by Karen Young, or "Love Resurrection" by Alison Moyet.
But some other tracks are less subtle. What do you think of Monifah's "Touch It" or Macy Gray's "Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak"?

That's What I Call the Power of Motown

De Amerikaanse platenmaatschappij Motown werd 50 jaar geleden (op 12 januari 1959) opgericht door songwriter en ondernemer Berry Gordy, die daarvoor 800 dollar van zijn vader leende.

Motown is de afkorting van 'Motor Town', een bijnaam voor de stad Detroit. Tegenwoordig is Motown in handen van het grootste muziekconcern ter wereld, Universal Music Group.
Kenmerk van de "Motown-sound", het typisch geluid van de platen van het Motown label, is dat ieder instrument zodanig werd opgenomen en in de stereo-mix gezet dat de instrumenten een eigen plek in het spectrum kregen. Het label beschikte over een huisband, The Funk Brothers genaamd, die op een groot deel van de platen van het label voor de muzikale begeleiding zorgde. De documentaire "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" uit 2002 gaat over de muzikanten van die band die altijd anoniem op de achtergrond zijn gebleven, maar samen wel voor een belangrijk deel verantwoordelijk zijn voor dat specifieke geluid.
Veel bekende artiesten zijn gestart bij Motown, zoals Michael Jackson en The Jackson Five, Diana Ross en The Supremes, Lionel Richie en The Commodores, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Four Tops, Smokey Robinson en The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Undisputed Truth, Rick James en, als zeldzame blanken, Meat Loaf, Kiki Dee, Rare Earth en R. Dean Taylor.

Maar wellicht belangrijker nog was Motown voor de emancipatie van de zwarte muzikant in de Verenigde Staten.
