Best of ...Both Worlds

Nadat hij in de jaren vijftig van de twintigste eeuw met grootheden als Dinah Washington, Lionel Hampton en Dizzy Gillespie had gespeeld, legde hij zich vanaf de jaren zestig toe op het schrijven, arrangeren en produceren van muziek.
Aanvankelijk bleef hij trouw aan de jazzwereld, maar langzamerhand breidde hij zijn werkterrein uit naar de filmmuziek en de pop.

Hoewel hij met talloze artiesten zoals Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Luther Vandross en Patti Austin heeft gewerkt, blijft Michael Jackson (vanwege de productie van het miljoenenalbum "Thriller") nog altijd de meest genoemde.

Ze werd in jaren '80 geroemd om haar zangkwaliteiten en haar verschijning. Na het album Love Deluxe begon haar carriere een beetje te kwakkelen en werd haar The Best Of Sade uitgebracht.Maar in het begin van deze eeuw kwam ze terug met Lovers Life (2002) en Lovers Rock (2000). Haar bekendste hits komen van haar debuutalbum Diamond Life en zijn (z)ondermeer Ordinary Love en Smooth Operator.

In 2009 was het 25 jaar geleden dat Sade, die dan vijftig werd, haar debuutalbum uitbracht. Al vanaf het moment dat het op single werd uitgebracht is Smooth Operator ontelbare keren gecoverd, en Sade is een dusdanige inspiratiebron voor zangeressen dat er sinds kort ook tribute-bands bestaan die dankbaar gebruik maken van haar podiumafwezigheid.

Begin jaren ’80 maakte Brian Setzer furore als frontman van The Stray Cats. Het rockabilly trio scoorde hits als Runaway boys en Rock this town. Toen het wat minder ging met die band formeerde hij 10 jaar later The Brian Setzer Orchestra. Van drie man op het podium ging hij over tot een big band die ook swing speelde. De muzikale kwaliteiten van Setzer kwamen door deze verandering pas goed aan het licht. Een optreden van Brian Setzer Orchestra staat garant voor muzikaal vuurwerk waar de energie van afspat.

Brian Setzer had vooral in de jaren '90 enorm veel succes met zijn Orchestra, een ouderwetse big band in de stijl van de jaren '40 en '50. Hij verkocht in een paar jaar tijd meer dan twee miljoen albums in de VS.

In 1987 speelt Candy Dulfer in het voorprogramma van Madonna in het Feyenoord-stadion in Rotterdam. Later vraagt ook Prince haar om op te treden in zijn voorprogramma voor zijn concerten in Nederland. Drie dagen voor het optreden zegt Prince de Funky Stuff onverwachts af. Na een boze brief van Candy Dulfer, mag ze een nummer met hem spelen, dat zo'n indruk op Prince maakt dat hij haar vraagt om met hem aan enkele projecten in de Verenigde Staten te werken.
In 1989 maakt Candy Dulfer enkele nummers met Dave Stewart, gitarist van The Eurythmics. Een van deze nummers, de titeltrack van de Nederlandse speelfilm Lily was here, wordt eind 1989 een nummer 1-hit in Nederland.

Een jaar later komt een debuut solo-album, getiteld Saxuality uit. Op dit album, waarvan er wereldwijd meer dan een miljoen exemplaren worden verkocht, staan enkele grote hits. In 1993 verschijnt het album Sax-a-go-go, gevolgd door Big Girl in 1995 (de titel Big Girl is een knipoog naar een vroeger album van haar vader, dat Big Boy heette).
