Black, White and Gold

Barry White (Galveston, Texas, 12 september 1944 - Los Angeles, 4 juli 2003) was een Amerikaanse soul- en disco-zanger/producer.
White werd geboren in Texas, maar groeide op in Los Angeles. Op 10-jarige leeftijd werd hij lid van een 'gang', en op de leeftijd van 16 werd hij veroordeeld tot 4 maanden gevangenis wegens diefstal.

Eind jaren zestig begon Whites muziekcarriere, eerst enkel als producer. Zijn grootste succes was het opzetten van Love Unlimited, waarvoor hij de klassieker "Walkin' in the Rain (With the One I Love)" schreef.
White had een aantal liedjes geschreven, en zocht een mannelijke vocalist om die op te nemen. Uiteindelijk liet hij zich overhalen om het zelf te doen, wat leidde tot het succesvolle album "I've Got So Much to Give" met de hit "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby".
Zijn volgende succes was de oprichting van het Love Unlimited Orchestra. Tegen alle verwachtingen in, werd het volledig instrumentale "Love's Theme" een grote hit.
White behaalde zijn grootste successen in de jaren '70, in de periode van de disco, maar ook later heeft hij nog diverse hits gehad.

Barry White overleed in een ziekenhuis in Los Angeles aan een nierziekte.
