Dimitri a la mode

Dimitri from Paris is het succes-verhaal van een duivelse Fransman, geboren in Turkije uit Griekse ouders (Dimitris Yerasimos, oktober 1963). Vandaag de dag heeft hij een internationale reputatie als Frans stijlicoon. Hij is vooral bekend voor zijn remix-albums maar heeft ook een drietal zeer stijlvolle eigen studio-CDs.

In 1997 kwam zijn eerste studio-album uit, "Sacrebleu", een subtiele mix van verschillende bronnen zoals film-soundtracks, jazzy samba en rustige house. Met dit album zette hij een standaard neer en begon zijn naam wereldwijd bekend te worden. Sacrebleu verkocht maar liefst 300.000 exemplaren!
Dimitri heeft op "Chanson a la mode" (2005) een kader uitgedokterd waarbinnen de 13 tracks moeten opereren, zoals eerder op zijn CD "Cruising Attitude" (zijn tweede studio-album uit 2003). Toen ging het over "vliegreizen", deze keer werd voor het concept "(jazz)katten" gekozen.
In de muziek vertaalt zich dat in het relaxte exotische geneuzel van Francoise Morechand, in "Very Stylish Cat". Maar ook Franse grootheden passeren de revue. Michel Fugain's "La fete" wordt gesampled in het nummer van Clementine. En klassieke muziek wordt ook niet geschuwd. Ravel's "Bolero" is misschien wat voor de handliggend, maar dat neemt niet weg dat "Chanson A La Mode" een moderne jazz-lounge-plaat is, die het moet hebben van oude gezellige swing en onschuldige humor...
