Pizzicato 5 bestaat sinds 1979 en heeft, in wisselende samenstelling, al meer dan 20 platen op hun naam staan. In Japan zijn ze vanaf hun oprichting populair, Europa en Amerika gaan nu ook langzaam voor de bijl voor de kinderlijkze zang van Nomiya Maki in combinatie met de retro-riedels van computertovenaar Konishi Yasuharu.

Pizzicato 5 grossiert in ultra-hippe seventies-disco en sixties-swing, met een hedendaagse aanpak. Zelfs als je Deee-lite, Pet Shop Boys en Ru-Paul samen een weekje in de studio zou opsluiten, zouden ze nog niet met dit unieke concept op de proppen komen. Pizzicato 5 is afwisselend dansbaar en melig, maar altijd verrassend en vrolijk.

Op de albums stoeit Pizzicato 5 altijd kunstig met drum'n'bass-ritmes en lijkt het muzikaal vaak geinspireerd op de tv-serie "De Wrekers" of andere camp-tunes.
