The Girl in the Other Room: Diana Krall

Diana Jean Krall (16 november 1964 te Nanaimo, Canada) is jazz-zangeres en -pianiste. Haar ouders zijn beide muzikaal, en hierdoor begint ze als vierjarige al piano te spelen. Op de middelbare school komt ze terecht in een klein jazz groepje. Als ze 15 is, treedt ze al op in diverse restaurants. Ze krijgt een studiebeurs om aan de Berklee College of Music in Boston te gaan studeren. Hier wordt ze ontdekt door de befaamde bass-gitaarspeler Ray Brown.

In 1993 komt haar eerste album uit, 'Stepping Out'. Haar derde album 'All for You: A Dedication to the Nat King Cole Trio' (1996) krijgt een Grammy nominatie.
In september 2006 komt haar tiende album uit. Daarop is Krall samen met het Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra te horen. Ze werkt op deze cd o.a. samen met Vince Gill, ze heeft samen met hem een duet opgenomen.

Krall doet het even rustig aan de komende tijd. Ze is eind vorig jaar bevallen van een tweeling. Voor ze met zwangerschapsverlof ging, nam ze nog wel een duet op met crooner Tony Bennett, voor ZIJN nieuwe CD. Ze stonden daarvoor niet samen in de studio want alle zangpartijen werden onafhankelijk van elkaar opgenomen.
