Marc Bolan, the Electric warrior and 20th Century boy

De Engelse popmuzikant Marc Bolan (1947-1977) werd in Londen geboren als Mark Feld.
In 1967 richtte hij met Steve Peregrine-Took de band Tyrannosaurus Rex op. De groep brak door na een succesvol optreden in het radioprogramma van John Peel.

Steve Peregrine-Took verliet de groep en werd vervangen door Mickey Finn. De naam van de groep werd gewijzigd in T. Rex en de groep werd uitgebreid met Jack Green (gitaar), Bill Legand (drums) en Steve Currie (bas).
"Hot Love" werd een grote hit en zorgde voor uitverkochte zalen. Andere successen volgden, waarvan "Jeepster" (uit "Electric Warrior", 1971), "Telegram Sam" en "Children Of The Revolution" de belangrijkste waren. Maar het succes bleef beperkt tot Engeland (en een beetje in Duitsland).

Rond 1973 werd het stil rond T. Rex. De band bestond nog twee jaar, maar er werden geen successen meer geboekt.
In 1976 verhuisde Marc Bolan naar de Verenigde Staten, waar hij in 1977 met een nieuwe bezetting T. Rex heroprichtte en het album "Dandy In The Underworld" uitbracht.
In september 1977 kwam Marc Bolan bij een auto-ongeluk om het leven.
