Simple: Holding Back The Years

Simply Red was een Britse band die bestond uit Mick Hucknall (lead zanger) en verschillende achtergrondmusici. De naam van de band komt deels van Hucknall's passie voor de voetbalclub Manchester United. De naam is ook een verwijzing naar Hucknall's krullende rode haardos, als ook zijn politiek linkse voorkeur.

De debuutsingle van de band was meteen een groot succes. Money's too tight to mention scoorde in 1985 in diverse Europese landen in de hitlijsten.
In 1986 bereikte Holding Back the Years de nummer één positie in de VS, en dat herhaalden ze in 1989 nog eens met hun cover-versie van Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' If you don't know me by now.

In 2005 brachten ze het album Simplified uit met daarop een verzameling van Simply Red- klassiekers in een akoestische versie.
