Blondie is.. a band !

Blondie is een Amerikaanse popband, die voortkwam uit de Newyorkse new-wavescene.
Hoewel Blondie door hun te hitparadegevoelig muziek geen uitgesproken provocerende band is, is de keuze van de bandnaam wellicht toch een beetje baldadig bedoeld: Blondie was de naam van de hond van Adolf Hitler. In 1997 hebben ze het nummer "Ordinary Bummer" (een cover van Iggy Pop die te vinden is op het album "We Will fall") onder de naam "Adolphs Dog" uitgebracht. De minder omstreden uitleg, die door de band zelf wordt gehanteerd, luidt dat de naam ontstond toen zangeres Debbie Harry door een passerende vrachtwagenchauffeur de woorden "Hey Blondie!" kreeg toegeschreeuwd.

De band Blondie werd in 1974 in New York opgericht, waar de groep hun invloeden in de beroemde punk-rock-club, CBGB's opdeed.
Dit eerste album, getiteld "Blondie", (tracklisting hieronder) speelt sterk in op het punk-ethos. De muziek doet denken aan meidengroepen uit de jaren zestig - een soort vrouwelijk versie van the Ramones.
Blondie maakte zes albums van 1976 tot 1982, waarvan Parallel Lines door velen als het hoogtepunt wordt gezien.

De groep viel in de loop van de jaren tachtig uiteen, met bittere rechtszaken over royalties als gevolg.
In 1998 maakte de groep evenwel een comeback met het album No-Exit. Er werd een wereldtournee ondernomen en men had een hit met het nummer Maria.
In 2003 kwam de opvolger uit: The Curse Of Blondie, en in 2004 volgde de dvd en cd "Live by Request".
