Eight to the Bar: Superhero Swinger Undercover

Cynthia Lyon stichtte Eight to the Bar in 1975. De originele lineup is ondertussen ouder geworden en verdwenen maar Lyon houdt vol. De muziek van Eight to the Bar is een vrolijke reis langs Kansas City van Count Basie en Detroit van The Supremes, terwijl de autoradio vanalles oppikt van verschillende golflentes: van "Take the A Train" tot "I heard it Through the Grapevine."

Hun songs zijn, net zoals hun uitzinnige kleding en verknipte choreografie, een kleurrijke mix van jaren-40-jive, fifties-melodrama en sixties-Motown. Maar voor een streepje funk draaien ze hun hand ook niet om...
Eight to the Bar is vooral bekend geworden door hun uitstekende instrumentalisten en hun gesofisticeerde muzikale en vokale arrangementen. Hun invloeden komen overal vandaan: swing, boogie woogie, rhythm & blues, soul...
Ze brengen hun albums in eigen beheer uit maar dat brengt hen net zo goed van de Caraiben tot Europa, en verder. Hun rigoureuze concertkalender bevat ruim 200 optredens per jaar en die kunnen net zo goed in het voorprogramma zijn van o.a. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Manhattan Transfer, Robert Cray, Neil Young, Roy Orbison of Ray Charles.
