Ik heb zijn gesigneerde autobiographie "My life in toons" hier in de kast staan. En ik herinner me mijn interview met Joe Barbera nog als de dag van gisteren, ook al is het alweer een hele poos geleden. Het trof me dan ook heel erg toen ik rond de jaarwisseling las dat hij was overleden...

Joseph Roland (Joe) Barbera (New York, 24 maart 1911 - Los Angeles, 18 december 2006) was een Amerikaanse producent, regisseur en tekenaar van animatiefilms.

Samen met William Hanna (overleden 2001) richtte hij de studio Hanna-Barbera op, nu bekend onder de naam Cartoon Network Studios. De studio vervaardigde bekende tekenfilms zoals The Huckleberry Hound Show, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo en Tom en Jerry.

Barbera was van het duo de beste tekenaar en grootste grappenmaker. Hanna was meer de zakenman...
