Santana is een legendarische Amerikaanse band, gevormd om muzikaal genie en gitaarvirtuoos (Devadip) Carlos Santana. Kenmerkend voor de muziek zijn de dominantie van de ritmesectie, de mengeling van Latijns-Amerikaanse en rockmuziek, zeer technisch veeleisende gitaarsolo's en een grote vrijheid tot improvisatie.Hiermee is Santana een van de beste voorbeelden van de bloei van de wereldmuziek in de late jaren '60 en vroege jaren '70, gevolg van de hippie-cultuur en de daarmee toegenomen interesse in vreemde landen en hun culturele bagage.
Legendarisch is Santana's optreden op het Woodstock-festival in 1969. Hieraan dankte de band zijn doorbraak.
Gedurende de hele jaren '70 bleef de band buitengewoon populair, maar geleidelijk aan raakte de muziek uit de mode.
In 1999 was Santana echter terug met de commercieel zeer succesvolle CD "Supernatural" met nummers die zich kenmerken door het gebruikelijke gitaarspel, echter nu aangevuld met zangpartijen van beroemde eigentijdse zangers en zangeressen.
